What is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is an important element of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), which has been practiced in China for more than 3,000 years and is still commonly used worldwide. This therapeutic method treats health problems and promotes the natural healing ability of the body by gentle insertion of hair-size, refined acupuncture needles at certain points along the acupuncture meridians in the body. Add a photo of Acupuncture here What is meridian and Chi? The human body has twelve different kinds meridians (twelve meridians on each side of body, total of 24 meridians)v which are highly complex, invisible networks. The twelve meridians transport and direct the vital force “Chi” (energy) to every part of the body. The twelve meridians and Chi have two main functions. First, they regulate the different functions of the body organs and systems. A meridian carries Chi as a freeway carries cars. The Chi flowing through the twelve meridians allows the body organs and systems to work together in harmony as intended. Second, they in turn regulate the biological clock. Chi circulates through the twelve meridians once every twenty-four hours, adjusting body functions to follow the changes of the time, the day, and the season. If Chi is misdirected or blocked, or meridians are destroyed, it may result in pain, dysfunctions, and illness. |
What Is Cupping?
Cupping is an ancient medical treatment; its Chinese roots date back to 300 or 400 A.D. Egyptian and Middle Eastern cultures also have ancient records of the practice. Nowadays, cupping is still regularly used in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) in Chinese hospitals and somewhere else. During the cupping session, suction cups of varying sizes are attached to the body, and the suction draws blood to the surface of the skin. Hence, the bruise-like marks appear on the skin where the cups are placed. The suction can be created either by the heating and subsequent cooling of the air in the cup, or via a mechanical pump. The cup is usually left in place for somewhere between five and ten minutes to help treat pain, deep scar tissues in the muscles and connective tissue, muscle knots, and swelling. The cupping treatment is said to improve blood circulation, thereby speeding up healing, reducing pain and easing muscle soreness. Lots of world-class athletes admit to using cupping a lot such as Michael Phelps and Alex Naddour. Add a photo of Cupping here How does acupuncture treat pain? Acupuncture can treat various kinds of pain which includes migraine headache, facial neuralgia, fibromyalgia, back and shoulder pain, carpal tunnel syndrome and tennis elbow, etc. The pain on or in the different parts of the body which are caused by the different reasons are connected with the different meridians. After the diagnosis from the Acupuncturist, the acupuncturist put acupuncture needles in the points of the impaired meridians to improve the local blood circulation, decrease the inflammation and edema in order to decrease the pain. |
